Welcome to Year 4,
In Year 4 we endeavour to bring our ‘can do’ attitudes to school each and every day, developing a greater belief in ourselves and each other along the way. Through maintaining a ‘can do’ attitude we aim to tackle daily challenges with perseverance, determination and a smile upon our face. We can achieve anything and overcome any obstacle if we try our best and believe in ourselves. Not only this, but in Year 4 we are a team of friends who value each other and help each other to grow each and every day.
This term our topic is ‘A Passport to Europe’ through which we will consider two questions: ‘Why do so many people go to the Mediterranean for their holidays?’ and ‘Has Greece always been in the News?’ We will be linking our topic work to our English lessons through which we will be reading and adding our own chapter to the book ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ and writing a persuasive holiday advert for a Greek Island.
Science: In science we will continue our topic on Forces before moving on to look at Plants and Animals including humans.
RE: After our ‘Buddhism’ topic, we will be moving on to the topic ‘Are all churches the same? Through this topic, Year 4 will know that Christianity is a multi-cultural worldwide faith and will consider the similarities and differences between different denominations of Christianity.
Computing: Last term in Year 4 we looked at algorithms and programming, learning to program an onscreen robot to carry out a set of instructions. We learnt how to program a robot to draw a range of polygons using different degrees of turn and the repeat function in our algorithms. Moving forward, this term we will be looking at decoding using 2Code on Purple Mash before moving on to look at using the internet, communication and data retrieval.
The children in Year 4 will continue to receive spellings homework every Monday and will also bring home their ‘Stage Test’ in order to identify and learn from their mistakes for the following week.
Our class assembly this term will be on Thursday 13th June and we look forward to seeing you there!
