“Strong standard marks out excellent, consistent work that’s making a real difference for children and learners.” OFSTED 2025

Turton and Edgworth were one of the very first schools in the whole country to have an inspection under the renewed, more thorough OFSTED Framework.
The evidence the inspectors gathered enabled them to grade each area at Turton and Edgworth as “Strong Standard” (“Strong standard marks out excellent, consistent work that’s making a real difference for children and learners.” OFSTED) You can learn more about OFSTED’s grades in a short video here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/understanding-ofsted-report-cards-and-grades.
OFSTED do not set Areas For Improvement (AFIs) for schools that achieve “strong” or “exceptional” grades. As every area fell within this range for us, you will see that there are no identified ‘next steps’ other than to ‘sustain the effectiveness of work in all areas’. However, as you might expect, we ARE continuing to always try to improve our offer for the children in terms of curriculum, inclusion/SEND and enrichment.
The Governors and I are extremely proud of our children, our staff and our school. This report celebrates all the hard work and dedication that is poured into our school every single day. We would really encourage families to look carefully at the choices of the words used by the inspectors in this report as these are very considered and deliberate. They carry lots of meaning. There are about a million quotes from the report that could be highlighted – don’t worry, we won’t – but below are just 5 that we are really proud of:
“Inclusion sits at the heart of the school’s work.”
“Pupils are proud advocates of their school.”
“Celebrating the success of others is second nature to pupils.”
“Children, including disadvantaged children and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, are remarkably well prepared for their next stage of learning. They are very well supported to get off to a flying start in their education.”
“Pupils are extremely well supported to become confident, compassionate and respectful members of their school and wider community. The impressive range of powerful experiences that pupils receive prepares them exceedingly well for life in modern Britain.”

All the Governorsand staff would like to extend our thanks for the ongoing support of our families and communities. It means a great deal to us.
