Celebrating Success & Behaviour
It is, of course, still our primary aim that every member of the school community feels valued and respected, and that each person is treated fairly and well. This is reflected in our school ethos: ‘to grow together with grace, humility and respect for one another.’
We expect every member of the school community to behave in a way that promotes our three school rules/values:
Everyone has the right to be safe
Everyone has the right to be respected
Everyone has the right to learn and teach
Our behaviour policy formulates a system which will promote these values at all times of the school day. It enables us to build on good relationships so that people can work together with the common purpose of enabling everyone to learn within a safe, caring environment.
As always we endeavour to reward good behaviour wherever possible in order to reinforce our ethos of kindness and co-operation. We want to promote good behaviour at all times, rather than merely deter anti-social behaviour. We do this through many different ways:
On a daily basis:
- specific praise;
- visual praise e.g. stickers;
- house points which are collated and celebrated as a whole school weekly;
- class points
- opportunity to ‘show-off’ your work to another teacher or class
- Texts home to indicate exceptionally good behaviour
- All classes have an opportunity to lead two achievement assemblies throughout the year where they are able to show examples of their best work.
In celebration assembly:
- Stars of the Week certificates for 2 children in every class
- A range of stickers and certificates given to acknowledge excellent behaviour, effort and/or achievement in a range of areas in school e.g. playground behaviour, lunchtime behaviour, cleanest classroom, effort, achievement and attitude in sports’ clubs, 'Edgworth Author' and various others!
- The school acknowledges all the efforts and achievements of children both in and out of school, and as a result, certificates, awards and special achievements from home are also shared and celebrated.
- At the end of every year, outstanding effort trophies are presented to individuals.
The school employs a number of sanctions when our school values have not been upheld these are clearly explained in the behaviour procedure document that can be downloaded by clicking on this link. There have been a few changes to how we deal with certain types of behaviour and inform parents so we recommend that you take some time to look at this document along with our revised Behaviour Policy which can be found under the 'Policy' tab.
Each situation is dealt with on an individual basis. Staff work within the policy guidelines whilst using their professional judgement and gaining a clear picture of each situation. All staff are encouraged to work collaboratively with their colleagues and parents when dealing with behaviour issues.
