Year 1- Gruffalo 2023 - 2024

Miss Partington

Mrs Kirby

Welcome to our Year 1 Gruffalo class!

My name is Miss Partington and I am the Year 1 class teacher. After October half term, I will be going on maternity leave and Mrs Kirby will be teaching Year 1 for the rest of the school year. We also have help from our teaching assistant Mrs Hegg.

In Year 1 children continue to learn through fun and engaging activities. There is still access to continuous provision activities, however, children are introduced to more structure as the year goes on.

During their time in Year 1, children will learn about topics such as: The Great Fire of London, Dinosaurs and Seaside Holidays.

Homework

Homework books are sent home on a Wednesday with an activity for English or Maths, or to consolidate curriculum learning in other subjects. Please return this back to school the following Monday.

Spellings are sent home to learn each week. These are sent home on a Monday. Children will be tested the following Monday.

Please send reading folders to school every day and read as much as possible at home.

Milk and Fruit

All infant children are offered a piece of fruit during the day. Alternatively, you can send one healthy snack into school for your child. We encourage healthy eating and therefore unhealthy snacks such as biscuits, chocolate or crisps are not allowed. Families also have the option to purchase milk for your child. Milk is pre-ordered via Parent Pay.

Water Bottles

Please can your child bring a water bottle to school every day, with their name clearly visible. These will be taken home for cleaning and refilling each day. They can also be refilled at school during the day.

Library

The children can visit the infant library every Friday to choose a book to bring home to share. They need to bring the book back on a Friday, so it can be swapped for a new book.

PE

Our PE day is every Tuesday. Please send your child to school in their full PE kit on this day.
