Welcome to Year 6!

Year 6 is a very special and important year in your child’s journey at Turton and Edgworth. As their final year of primary school, our aim is to help every child grow in confidence, independence and resilience, while developing the skills they need to make a happy and successful transition to high school.

I feel incredibly privileged to be sharing this final chapter with your children. We know that Year 6 will be busy and that we will work hard, but we also believe that learning should be fun, and we will make sure there is plenty of that along the way!

Please take some time to look through our class timetable and half-termly knowledge organisers, which provide an overview of the exciting learning planned across our subjects.

A few Year 6 highlights

• Taking responsibility: Year 6 children are given greater responsibility and play an important role in the everyday life of our school
• Reception buddies: Each child is paired with a Reception buddy, helping younger children to develop their confidence while giving our Year 6 pupils the opportunity to be excellent role models
• Residential: In Spring, we head away for three days and two nights. The children have an amazing time with their friends taking part in activities such as trapeze, archery and canoeing
• Year 6 production: Towards the end of the year, the children take to the stage to showcase their talents in drama, singing and dancing
• Tuck shop: Wednesday and Friday
• PE: Thursday PM
• Homework: Spellings, Reading and Times Tables through TT Rockstars
