Welcome to Year 5
Here you will find lots of information about our class,our lessons and our involvement in school life.
Mrs Brierley is the class teacher and is supported by Miss Fletcher who covers our PPA on Thursdays. We are also supported during the week by Mrs Nicholson and Mrs Reeves.
In Year 5, we aim to challenge the children’s resilience and offer opportunities to thrive and excel in all areas. We encourage the children to step out of their comfort zones and test themselves in a positive and encouraging environment.
In English we will be reading various novels, like Beowulf, Running Wild and the Portal, these novels link very well into all our other learning throughout the year. Spelling will be taught every day, and tested on the following week.
In Maths we will be starting the term looking at Numbers, including Roman numerals and Place Value. We will also have a huge emphasis on learning our times tables and relative facts.
In Science we will be studying Materials, The Solar system, Forces and Animals and Humans.
We will also be looking at areas of Eastern Europe, the UK and studying The Maya and The Ancient Greeks in our Geography and HIstory units, along wiith some local History around Edgworth, with some visits to Turton Tower and the Barlow.

Days to Remember
PE/ Drama - Thursdays taught by Miss Fletcher.
Homework and Spellings - These both go home on Mondays and are returned and tested on the following Monday.
Reading books are sent home every night and brought back the following day.
Our Library day is Thursdays
Please encourage your child to read as often as possible at home.
