Welcome to Year 3,
Welcome to Year 3’s class page. In Year 3 we aim to spend our days wearing a smile as we believe that happiness is key to successful learning. We always try our best and bring to school our ‘can do’ attitudes which help us when we face challenges which we we initially feel are tough. During our lessons we try to have fun and this year we are taking our learning outside to make it more, regardless of the weather.
This term in Year 3 the children will begin to have swimming lessons. These will be every Thursday. Please ensure that your child has their kit, and knows which towel belongs to them.
Children will take part in guided reading during the school day with the teacher and will have the opportunity to read in school, please send your child’s reading book into school every day.
I would like to encourage more reading at home this term. When reading with your child, please ask your child questions about their book to support their understanding of what they have read.
In our Maths lessons this term we will be focusing on shape and geometry, the children will be encouraged to find right angles and to recognise horizontal, vertical and perpendicular lines.
We will continue to bring home spellings each week on a Friday. We will work on learning the spellings in school during the week and the spellings will be tested usually the following Friday. Extra support learning at home would be appreciated.
Our Science topic this term is all about keeping our bodies healthy. We will be investigating the different food types and looking at how our muscles work, whilst also investigating the dietary requisites of our pets.
Please list some key areas of study for this half term/block.
Children will build on their mathematical skills moving from practical calculations to more written methods. We will also begin to learn the 8 times tables and division facts associated with them. We will be focusing on TT rock stars as part of our tables work, as well as learning about different units of measure and fractions.
Children will read a variety of texts in the form of playscripts and non-chronological reports, they will continue to develop their own writing skills using the texts, whilst improving their comprehension skills.
